After an inspirational day I decided this evening would be spent making a dress that I want to wear for my birthday at the end of May.
It is from a pattern I have used several times and over the course of five dresses I have finally got the fit perfect and the pattern has been fully adapted. Having made it several times I'm hoping it will not take the usual month to finish off the piece.
Usually I save my sewing projects for my two hour sewing class that I have been taking for the last couple of years but today I figured why not give it a go at home. Five hours later and I have completed most of the bodice. I began to think - well it doesn't look like I've done much really, but, have I left my project just for class what I accomplished today would have taken over two weeks. So now tomorrow, I get to go into class for a double session and show my tutor how much I've managed to get done and hopefully it won't take too long to complete.
I'm going to try and keep this blog up to date now, inspired by a friend who is creating her own blog and having discovered some great sewing blogs out there, I am re-entering the blogging community purely for myself really as a record of my creative endeavours.
Tomorrow I'll post how far I have got with my dress along with, hopefully, some better photographs.

The craft fair was a success, in that I made £40 which is fine and dandy with me :)
Lying awake last night, racking my brains to figure out how I would spend the next days two hour sewing class, knowing I didn't have time to go out and buy new fabric but wanting to get something started before my new patterns arrived, I came up with the idea of customising a plain black dress that I haven't worn for about a decade with some of the left over japanese alice in wonderland fabric. And this is it laid out:

Just the attaching it all together now then ;)

Some shameless self promotion. I will be selling my (jewellery) wares at this event on Halloween. The event is being held by my roller derby league the Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames to help raise some funds for our team. These craft fairs have a lovely relaxed atmosphere and it's always lovely for my creations to be loved and taken home.

Sewing Project
From taking a pattern from an aline skirt I already own I have completed an aline skirt made out of Michael Miller Rocket Rascals fabric.

It's hard to believe that in the six months since I started my sewing class that I have made a top, dress, made adjustments to another dress and made a skirt - especially as I haven't used any sewing skills since secondary school and in March I couldn't even thread a sewing machine!
Since this project was by far the easiest one I've done I want to use this pattern again and create more skirts in other funky fabrics.
